Policemen Quit After Abusing Domestic Abuse Victim
I very rarely buy newspapers, but I couldn't resist purchasing a copy of April 30th's (yesterday's) Western Mail, after seeing the front-page headline (pictured left). The report concerns two North-Walian police officers, Terrence Flanagan and Iwan Williams, when attending a domestic abuse incident in the area. After dealing with the incident, the two officers had a long conversation between themselves in their van, during which they made misogynistic and sexual comments about the victim and other people. The whole conversation was captured on their switched-on body cameras. Both policemen resigned before the hearing, but were told they would have been sacked anyway if they hadn't already have quit. The officers admitted the offensive comments were made, but claimed they amounted to misconduct and not gross misconduct. Flanagan and Williams were found to have been in breach of Professional Behaviour relating to Discreditable Conduct, and were both placed on the 'Barred List', meaning they will not be able to ever serve as a police officer again. More information is in the continuation of the article below, and the story is also covered online on the Wales Online website HERE.
